So obviously I've gotten the whole Twitter thing going.

This is a test solution, I'm not committed to using it forever. If you decide you hate it enough that you'd rather not read my journal, let me know. It should only post once per day.

I could probably rig it to tag posts as "twitter", but since you can't filter posts by tag anyway, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of point to that. So I haven't.

We'll see whether this turns out to be useful. Not worth burning a lot of time on it if it isn't!

As a warning, some people will bitch a lot about the twitter->journal thing. The people ON twitter will see your twitter posts via twitter, and the people NOT on twitter feel superior about not being on it and may make a lot of noise about therefore not wanting to see your tweets. Most seem to be using twitter selectively to facebook but not to blogs.

Yeah, it's all kind of a messy situation.

What I want is for people on LJ to be able to selectively follow parts of someone's journal based on tags, so I could tag all the Twitter entries as "twitter" and people could say "I want to read zorbathut, but not zorbathut/twitter".

Unfortunately it's completely impossible to do this on LJ.

I'm going to propose it on Dreamwidth once they get a little less panicked about launching, though :)

This is sort of a test - if people really hate the twitter posts, I'll stop reflecting them here, make an RSS (I assume there's RSS support on Twitter :P) and just start referring to them whenever I flesh out a post. We'll see.

Why don't you just write an addon for LJ and.or Dreamwidth that does that?

LJ wouldn't accept it, Dreamwidth has too much on their plate right now.

I may help on it once Dreamwidth has more time though :)

If DW had a feature like that, it would be super awesome. I've always wanted LJ to do it. Some blogs will let you subscribe to a given category or tag and it is made of win.

Mostly, I hate Twitter posts on LJ. I'm planning to de-friend people who now post multiple Twitter posts daily. If I wanted to read Tweets, I'd read them on Twitter. [info]edible_hat has done it right; he posts a line that says there are tweets and then posts the entries under a cut. I just skip them. You might consider that as a good compromise. Since I follow Twitter, I would probably read your post there, and it would irritate me to see them twice. Apparently I use Twitter oddly, though - I follow museums and museum professionals, and a couple of people I know locally who post rarely, except for special reasons. One friend is on vacation in Utah and posting 2-5x daily, but that's fun. I drop people who Tweet everything they do -"I'm running for a bus,""I'm waiting at the bus stop," "I'm eating." That drives me nuts.

It turns out that people don't read things under cuts - if I did that, I may as well just not post them in the first place :)

For what it is worth, I enjoy the twitter-lj posts, but that is because I am not on twitter so I don't get them doubled.
