a post I just made on a message board

I gotta admit, this isn't the most clever marketing strategy I've ever seen.

Step 1: Wow, this game is cool! And the plotline is really intruiging! I might register this thing!
Step 2: oooh, the vell-os. That sounds neat. I'm really getting into this.
Step 3: Wait, I can't upgrade my ship? Okay, this kinda sucks now. Oh well, I'm sure they have something in mind.
Step 4: Pretty new ship. Still, I wish I could upgrade it *myself*.
Step 5: This plotline is kinda starting to suck. I don't have any control over it at all. It's just "do things I don't want to do." I sure hope I get out of this soon.
Step 6: Hey, they just said I might get out of this! Things are looking up!
Step 7: Pretty new ship. This is getting old though.
Step 8: This is getting really old.
Step 9: Okay, not only don't I have any control, but now I don't have anything to do. I think I'll go hunt pirates or something.
Steps 10, 11, 12, and 13: That's a lot of dead pirates.
Step 14: Now I'm rich. Pity I can't SPEND IT ANYWHERE. Wonder if there's any more plot or if I'm just stuck.
Step 15: Now that I've explored the galaxy, I'll go look for a walkthrough or a hint or something.
Step 16: So let me get this straight. You want me to spend $30 on a game that isn't fun anymore and you didn't even bother to tell me that.

*sighs* mighty disappointing.

The worst part is, I really want to love this game! It's fun, it looks like it could be fantastic, except there's this dark feeling in the back of my mind that after I fork over my $30 all I'll get is one or two more missions and a big sign that says "HA HA, SUCKER!" Especially after this "plotline".

Sheesh, people, take a psych class or two. The time to beg for money is *not* when the gamer is feeling most frustrated at your plot.
