I'm pretty sure I've got people on my list who are experienced with colo facilities, so I thought I'd ask this question here because I'm curious. Is heat a massive severe problem, or are colos usually equipped with relatively simple heat management? Our computer banks are getting disturbingly hot (and I think it's causing some problems), but in our case we're running all the CPUs at 100% 24/7. Most of the time (I think) servers are both not running at 100% and are bottlenecked by disk access, which isn't as hot - in our case we're just doing gigantic calculations. So: if we *were* to get a rackmount system, would we also need to set up an extra ventilation/cooling system?
We're not going to set up a rackmount, I'm just curious :P
