musings on format

Every once in a while a webcomic decides they want to do animated episodes. Which always makes me cringe.

Why? It's never "animated funny things" - it's always "animated webcomics". Which means there's a single scene, and people talk, generally without moving much. Then it cuts to another scene, and people talk, generally without moving much. If you're lucky there's "animation" which is usually the kind of thing you'd express in a single panel with a word that says "fwizz".

People try to do this all the time, incidentally. "Animated books". "A new movie based on the hit game series". For that matter, "interactive movies".

Don't fall into this trap.
