teen depression and Starship Troopers (no, there's no connection)

First order of business: this entry of mine has been added to the LJ topic directory. Odd. I suppose, though, if any of my entries were going to be added, it oughta be that one. (*how* many times was that one linked exactly?)

Second order of business: Starship Troopers is an even better movie than I remember.

Now, I'm sure I'm going to get people poking at me and saying "but it's just an action movie!" Well, yes. That's the point. It's an ACTION MOVIE. And it's actually really funny, too. There are some *hilarious* bits in it - even the ones that look more like government propaganda than movie bits. Those are absolutely beautiful.

It's also just plain made well. I was very rarely saying "wow, the special effects are good" - because you don't notice. It just flows in seamlessly. I *was* criticizing their tactics, which were occasionally abhorrent, but the special effects just sort of worked :)

It's not the book, and I'm not going to pretend it is. The book is great. But so's the movie! So go watch it :P And don't read the book first, because then you'll think it's going to be like that, and it ain't. But read the book afterwards, because it's good.

This may be my last entry in Seattle, btw. Be back in a day or two.

(or it might not.)
